Sony TV remote app: identify your BRAVIA platform first
Sony BRAVIA TVs do not all use the same remote-control system. Some run Google TV or Android TV; others use Sony’s BRAVIA network interface. TV Remotely supports both, with setup steps and available commands depending on the model.
Which Sony TV do you have?
Open the TV’s About or system information screen and note the model and software version. Sony’s support page for that model tells you whether it runs Google TV, Android TV or another platform. A BRAVIA badge alone is not enough.
| Sony platform | Next step |
|---|---|
| Google TV or Android TV | Follow the pairing-code flow below and the Android TV guide. |
| BRAVIA network control | Enter the PIN the TV shows, or the Pre-Shared Key if the TV is set to use one. |
| Platform unknown | Identify the model before changing remote or developer settings. |
Pair a Sony Android TV or Google TV
Turn on the TV and put the phone on the same local network. Open TV Remotely, select the Sony TV and enter the code shown on the TV screen. After pairing, test basic navigation before checking other commands.
On iPhone, the app needs Local Network permission. If the TV does not appear, follow discovery troubleshooting.
PIN or Pre-Shared Key on a BRAVIA TV
By default, a BRAVIA TV shows a PIN on screen the first time TV Remotely connects; enter it in the app. If the TV has been set to authenticate with a Pre-Shared Key (in its network or IP control settings), the app asks for that key instead. Type the same key that is set on the TV.
Network control depends on the model and its settings, so do not apply Google TV instructions just because the set is a Sony. If authorization fails, note the error and contact support with the model.
Can a phone replace the Sony remote completely?
It covers routine controls after pairing. It does not cover every physical-remote feature or the TV’s initial setup, and waking from standby depends on the model’s network settings. If you have lost the original remote, see the lost-remote guide.
What about a phone keyboard?
Text entry depends on the TV platform and the active field. A custom search or login screen may not accept typing from a phone. See the keyboard guide and test your exact use. Check availability and platform compatibility before installing.
