Troubleshooting

Google TV remote pairing code does not appear

When a Google TV phone remote shows no pairing code, first confirm the TV is already set up, awake and on the same local network as the phone. A setup QR code for a new Google TV device is a different flow from a remote-control pairing code.

Tell setup from remote pairing

Google’s setup guide describes QR-code or manual first-time setup. Its virtual remote guide asks a phone to select a nearby TV and enter the code displayed on that TV. If the set is still on its first-setup screen, complete that flow with the original remote before expecting normal remote pairing.

Use the phone setup method only when the TV offers it for that model; Google says experiences vary.

Check discovery before waiting for a code

Google’s remote troubleshooting says the TV and phone must use the same Wi-Fi network. Confirm the TV appears in the compatible remote app. Guest-network isolation can block the discovery path even when both devices have internet.

If the TV is not listed, troubleshoot the network; waiting longer will not create a pairing code.

Restart and retry once

If the TV is listed but no code appears, close the pending pairing attempt and use the TV’s normal restart option, then reopen the remote flow. Google documents a power restart in its virtual remote troubleshooting. Record the TV model and software version if the code still never appears.

Do not factory-reset the TV for a missing code before checking its model-specific support guidance.
