LG TV remote app: pair your phone with a webOS TV

TV Remotely supports LG TVs running webOS 3 or newer. Pairing happens over your local network and needs one approval on the TV screen. Older LG sets that do not run webOS are not supported.

Check webOS and the network

Look in the TV’s system or TV information settings for the model and software version. Connect the phone to the same local network as the TV. An LG TV on Ethernet can still be reached from Wi-Fi when the router connects the two.

Keep the TV awake for the first connection. A working connection while the TV is on does not mean it can be woken from standby.

Pair with TV Remotely

  1. Open the app and let it find devices.
  2. Allow the permissions it requests. On iPhone, check Local Network access if the TV never appears.
  3. Select the LG TV and accept the pairing prompt on its screen.
  4. Test navigation, volume and app launching separately. What works depends on the TV’s software.

Check availability or read the platform table before downloading.

LG TV connects when on but disappears in standby

Treat this as standby behavior, not a Wi-Fi failure. On many models the setting is under Settings → General → Devices → TV Management → Mobile TV On → Turn on via Wi-Fi, but the path varies by webOS version. See turning on a TV with your phone for how waking works.

Can an LG remote app replace the LG remote control?

For everyday use on a webOS TV that is on your network, yes: navigation, volume and app launching work from the phone, and you can type with your phone’s keyboard. Keep the LG remote control for first-time setup, Wi-Fi changes and the Magic Remote’s pointer. If the remote is lost, read lost TV remote.

LG remote app choices: ThinQ or TV Remotely?

LG ThinQ is LG’s own app with LG’s device integration. TV Remotely is an independent remote for several TV platforms. Neither reproduces every function of an LG Magic Remote, such as its pointer or microphone.

Why can I navigate but not enter text?

TV Remotely can send text to LG webOS TVs, but the text goes to the field that is active on the TV, and some TV apps use custom fields that do not accept network text. Select a normal search field and test a short word. Read typing on a TV with your phone before treating this as a connection failure.

If the LG TV does not appear at all, use the discovery checklist. Report a command-specific issue with the model, webOS version and TV app through support.
