TCL TV remote app: which operating system is on your TV?

A TCL logo does not tell you how the TV is controlled. TCL televisions run several different operating systems, so the first step is to check the actual platform rather than choose a setup based on the brand alone.

Find the platform

Open the TV’s system information or About screen. If you cannot reach the menu, look up the exact model number in TCL’s manual. Note whether it says Roku TV, Google TV, Android TV, Fire TV or another system.

Which setup guide to use for each TCL platform
Your TCL platformSetup path
Roku TVRoku TV remote setup, including the network-control setting.
Google TV or Android TVAndroid TV and Google TV setup, including the on-screen code.
Fire TVUse the Fire TV guide; Roku and Android TV steps do not apply.
Another or unknown systemConfirm it is a supported platform before expecting the app to connect.

What is different about pairing?

On Roku-based sets, the network-control setting matters and there is no code. On Android TV and Google TV, expect a pairing code on screen. TV Remotely’s Fire TV connection needs developer ADB access turned on, and Amazon devices running Vega OS will not connect. That is why a single generic “TCL pairing PIN” instruction can be misleading.

Connect your phone

Once you know the platform, turn on the TV and connect both devices to the same home network. Open TV Remotely, follow the linked platform guide, allow the permissions it requests and complete the TV’s approval step.

If no TV appears, use the TV-not-found checklist. If the original remote is missing, read the lost-remote guide to check whether you can complete approval.

Will keyboard, volume and power work?

Test those commands on your actual TV. Working navigation does not prove that every text field or standby command works. See phone keyboard limits for text entry. Check availability before installing and report your model and platform for an unresolved failure.
