Troubleshooting

TV or streaming device stuck on its startup logo

If a TV or streaming device stays on its logo and never reaches the home screen, first identify which device is showing the logo. Check its power and attached equipment, then follow that manufacturer’s recovery guide. Do not try generic button combinations or a factory-reset pinhole: recovery steps vary by model and a reset can erase setup.

Find out which device is stuck

  1. Read the logo and check whether it appears on the television itself or on an HDMI streaming device.

This identifies which manufacturer’s startup and recovery instructions apply.

If that does not help: If the screen is blank or ambiguous, note the TV brand, connected box/stick and HDMI input, then check each device’s model label.

  2. If an external streamer is connected, turn off or disconnect other HDMI accessories only if their manuals allow it, then start the TV with the streamer connected directly to a known working input.

If startup succeeds, an accessory or connection may have affected the startup path.

If that does not help: If the logo still hangs, restore the original setup and troubleshoot the device that owns the logo.

  3. Check that the power adapter and cable are the ones supplied or specified for that exact device, and inspect for loose connections or visible damage.

A stable, supported power connection is necessary for startup.

If that does not help: If a cable is damaged, hot, smells unusual or sparks, stop using it and contact the manufacturer; do not open the TV.

Try one manufacturer-approved restart

A stuck screen may clear after a normal restart, but the correct procedure is device-specific. Google’s guidance for an unresponsive Google TV device describes disconnecting its power cable for one minute before reconnecting. Roku’s current logo-screen guide gives a 60-second unplug step for Roku TVs and describes model-specific recovery options if it does not help. Those instructions do not apply to every Android TV, Fire OS, Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, VIDAA or other model.

  1. Search the maker’s official support site for the exact model and the symptom “stuck on logo” or “will not start.”

The instructions should identify supported restart and recovery options for that device.

If that does not help: If the manufacturer has no online guide, contact its support channel before trying reset-button sequences.

  2. Perform only the documented restart or power cycle once, waiting for the full period specified by the manufacturer.

If the startup process was temporarily stuck, the device may load its home screen.

If that does not help: If it returns to the same logo or restarts repeatedly, stop repeating the same cycle and continue to the recovery decision.

  3. If the screen says that software is updating or restoring, do not remove power unless the manufacturer tells you to.

Leaving the device powered as instructed gives the process time to finish.

If that does not help: If the update appears unchanged for an unusually long time, use the manufacturer’s stuck-update guidance for the exact model.

Understand recovery and reset choices before using them

Some manufacturers provide model-specific recovery or reset procedures, but a combination used on one model may do something else on another. Read the complete manufacturer page first, including what data is erased and what the status light or screen should show. If the device is still under warranty, contact support before trying an undocumented recovery method.

When to stop and contact the manufacturer

Contact the TV or streaming-device maker if the logo remains after its documented restart, the device repeatedly reboots, the status light shows an error, or you cannot safely reach the recovery instructions. Provide the exact model, software version if known, what appears on screen, whether an update was running, attached HDMI devices, and the restart steps already tried. A persistent logo does not by itself identify whether the cause is software, storage, power or hardware.

What to do next

Wait for the model’s documented startup window, then use only its recovery procedure; a logo screen alone does not identify the cause.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my TV stuck on its logo screen?
The screen alone cannot identify the cause. Startup software, a pending update, connected equipment, power or a device fault may be involved. Identify which device owns the logo and use its model-specific support instructions.
How long should I unplug a TV stuck on its logo?
There is no universal interval. Follow the official instructions for the exact TV or streaming device; Google and Roku publish different model-scoped procedures.
Can I hold the reset button to fix a stuck logo?
Do not use a reset button or button combination unless the manufacturer’s exact model guide explains it. It may factory-reset the device and erase its setup.
