Google TV settings keep reverting? Check connection, mode and updates

When Google TV settings change back after restart, check the network, Retail/Store mode and available system updates. Basic mode can explain unavailable features, but is not evidence that a setting failed to save.

Check the causes in this order

Google lists a short cause check for settings that revert when a Google TV device is turned back on: confirm the network, identify the operating mode, then check for a system update. A persistent reset is not by itself proof of a faulty television.

  1. Confirm the device is connected to the intended network in Settings > Network and Internet.

This follows Google’s first diagnostic step.

If that does not help: If the TV is offline, reconnect it and retry the setting before changing modes.

  2. Check whether the television is in Retail, Store or Demo mode.

Google says settings do not save in retail/store demo mode.

If that does not help: Switch to Home mode using the exact TV manufacturer’s instructions; Google notes these controls vary by manufacturer.

  3. Check whether the device is in Basic mode.

Some account, app install, Assistant search and casting features are unavailable in Basic mode.

If that does not help: If you need full Google TV features, select Set up Google TV from its home screen banner.

  4. Check Settings > System > About > System update.

Google recommends installing an available system update.

If that does not help: Menu wording and update path can vary by manufacturer.

When not to factory reset

The documented first steps are network, mode and system update checks. Do those before considering a reset: a factory reset erases local settings and requires setup again. If only one setting changes back, note which setting and whether it affects all inputs or profiles; that detail can help the TV manufacturer identify model-specific behavior.

What to do next

Check network and operating mode before resetting; Google TV may intentionally block settings in retail or Basic mode.

Frequently asked questions

Does Google TV Store mode prevent settings from saving?
Google says settings will not save in retail/store mode. The procedure for changing to Home mode depends on the television maker.
Can Basic mode explain why I cannot install an app?
Yes. App installation is not available in Basic mode, though that alone does not explain every setting-revert issue.
