Troubleshooting

TV is stuck in store demo mode

If a TV repeatedly shows store promotions or reverts picture and setup choices, check whether it is still in Retail or Demo mode. That mode can intentionally reset settings to showcase the television. Confirm the label in the TV’s usage-mode menu and switch to Home mode using the exact model instructions.

Recognize store-mode behavior

Common clues include a retail banner or looping advertisement, settings that revert after a short time, a guided showcase, or limited setup. A screen saver or ambient display may also show promotional art, but it usually does not revert every picture setting. Record the exact behavior and when it returns. Samsung’s official guide says Retail/Demo mode can show advertising and restore settings; LG lists Home/Store (DEMO) as a model-dependent configuration. These manufacturer examples do not mean every brand has identical behavior or menu names.

Find the usage-mode setting

Use the TV’s Settings or Support menus and search the model’s manual for Retail Mode, Demo Mode, Store Mode, Usage Mode, or Home Mode. On newer Samsung models, the documented path includes General & Privacy, System Manager, and Usage Mode; other generations may place it elsewhere. If the TV is managed by a hotel, retailer, school, or workplace, the mode could be controlled by an administrator. Do not use a service menu or undocumented remote sequence to bypass a managed configuration.

  1. Check the full TV model and consult its official manual for the usage-mode setting.

The manual confirms whether the feature exists and names the relevant options.

If that does not help: If the model belongs to an organization or hospitality setup, contact its administrator before changing configuration.

  2. Verify that the mode is actually Retail/Demo rather than a screen saver or ambient slideshow.

The displayed menu label distinguishes a usage profile from a visual standby feature.

If that does not help: If there is no demo-mode option, compare the exact symptom with the TV maker’s support guide.

Switch to Home mode safely

If you own or administer the TV and the menu confirms Retail/Demo mode, choose Home mode as the manufacturer directs. A PIN may be requested; use the documented PIN process, not a code copied from another model or seller. Then set one preference, wait long enough to see whether it stays, and restart the TV normally. If it persists after a restart, verify the usage mode remains Home and check whether a retailer/management profile is still enrolled.

  1. Select Home mode in the documented usage-mode menu and confirm the change.

Normal home use should stop the store showcase behavior on models where Retail mode caused it.

If that does not help: If a PIN is requested and you do not know it, contact the seller or manufacturer instead of attempting random codes.

  2. Change one noncritical setting, wait, then restart normally and check whether that setting remains.

Persistence after restart tests whether the TV retained home configuration.

If that does not help: If settings still revert, document which settings reset and whether the TV shows a management screen.

Separate demo mode from factory reset

Switching from Store to Home mode is not the same as factory reset. A factory reset removes accounts, apps, and personal settings and may return some models to a setup state where usage mode must be selected again. Avoid factory reset unless the maker recommends it for a separate fault. If the TV returns to Retail mode after a reset, choose Home during first-time setup and retain proof of purchase if the seller needs to correct an enrolled or display-unit configuration.

When Home mode will not stay selected

Contact the manufacturer or seller with the model code, region, software version, exact menu label, promotion behavior, and whether the TV was sold new or used as a display. If the set was part of a commercial installation, ask its administrator. Do not install unofficial firmware or change service-menu values: those actions can impair operation and do not establish that the TV is defective.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my TV keep showing store ads?
A retail or demo usage mode can play promotional material and revert settings on some models. Verify the mode in the exact TV manual.
Will Home mode erase my apps?
Choosing Home mode is not generally a full factory reset, but behavior varies by model. Read the confirmation before selecting it.
Why do my settings reset again after switching to Home?
Check that the usage mode stayed on Home and whether a store/organization profile controls the TV. Contact the seller or manufacturer if it reverts.
