Troubleshooting
Chromecast or Google TV Streamer remote won’t pair?
For a Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer Voice Remote that will not pair, first replace the batteries and restart the streaming device. Pair with Back and Home; use the reset procedure for the exact remote generation only if pairing still fails.

Start with batteries and a device restart
First identify whether the remote is for Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer. Google documents different factory-reset button procedures for those remotes, so do not use a sequence from the other model.
Remove and reinstall both batteries, then test with two fresh 1.5-volt AAA batteries if the remote still does not respond.
A responding remote should show its LED; Google documents detailed battery/LED checks on its troubleshooting page.
If that does not help: If the LED does not flash as described, try two fresh 1.5V AAA batteries.
Restart the streaming device by unplugging its power, then retry pairing.
Google recommends rebooting before unpairing or resetting the remote.
If that does not help: If the screen is usable through a phone remote, continue to the remote settings.
For the Google streaming remotes covered here, hold Back and Home for three seconds when the pairing screen is ready.
Google documents this general pairing action, while some third-party Google TV devices use manufacturer prompts.
If that does not help: If it is not discovered, use the on-screen Pair remote/accessory menu or the exact manufacturer procedure.
Only use the reset procedure for the matching remote
If another remote or an already-paired phone can control the Google device, open Settings > Remotes and accessories > Voice Remote > Forget > Yes before resetting the physical remote. Keep that alternate control available for pairing again.
- Chromecast Voice Remote: remove both batteries and wait five minutes. Reinsert them while holding Home. Keep holding while the LED is solid; release Home when the LED begins pulsing. If it does not pair automatically, hold Back and Home for three seconds.
- Google TV Streamer Voice Remote: hold Mute and Centre/Select together. Keep holding through the flashing LED and countdown sound, until the LED becomes solid white; Google says this usually takes no more than about 12 seconds. Then follow the pairing prompts.
These are remote factory resets. A factory reset of the entire TV or streaming device is a different, broader step that erases device setup. If the remote is still absent, use Pair remote or accessory through the alternate control. Chromecast can stop scanning after a pairing timeout; reboot it before another attempt.
What to do next
Use the reset sequence for the exact Google remote generation, and save device factory reset for last.
