Troubleshooting

TV Wi-Fi option is missing or greyed out

A greyed-out Wi-Fi setting is different from a TV that can open Wi-Fi settings but finds no networks. One points to a control the TV will not let you change; the other means scanning is available but the list is empty. Identify which state you have before changing router options. On some LG models, the manufacturer’s guidance says an unavailable Wi-Fi menu or empty list may require support if basic recovery does not restore it.

Tell a disabled control from an empty network list

  • Wi-Fi toggle or menu is grey and cannot be selected: the TV is not offering the wireless control at that moment.
  • Wi-Fi opens but no network names appear: the scan is available, but no networks are listed; check nearby networks, band support and signal.
  • Networks appear but your router name is missing: compare band/model support and whether the router hides its network name.
  • The TV says Wi-Fi is off but offers no switch: use the model manual; do not assume a hidden menu path from another model will apply.

These states need different evidence. Changing the router password will not normally make an unavailable TV control clickable, while restarting a router may not help if the TV’s scan list itself is disabled.

Try safe recovery before changing network settings

  1. Use the TV’s normal restart option if available, then return to network settings and check whether the Wi-Fi control has changed.

A temporary interface or software state may clear after a restart.

If that does not help: If the Wi-Fi menu remains disabled, do not repeat the restart endlessly; note the model and exact screen.

  2. If a recent power interruption or update preceded the problem, follow the manufacturer’s documented power-cycle or software-update steps for the exact model.

If the maker identifies a specific recovery step for that version, it may restore the network control.

If that does not help: Do not use undocumented button combinations or install firmware intended for a different model.

  3. Check whether Ethernet is available as a temporary way to connect the TV, if the model has a LAN port and a cable can be used safely.

A wired connection may restore internet access for apps while leaving the wireless control issue unresolved.

If that does not help: If the TV has no port or does not detect the cable, do not treat that as proof the Wi-Fi setting should work; continue with model support.

If Wi-Fi opens but finds no networks

  1. Check whether a phone can see the router’s network beside the TV, then compare the TV’s documented Wi-Fi band support with the router’s active bands.

If neither device sees the network, investigate whether the router radio is enabled. If the phone sees it but the TV does not, TV band support, location or model-specific network requirements matter.

If that does not help: Do not change router security or region settings without the router maker’s guidance; record which networks the TV can see, if any.

  2. If your model supports it, check the TV maker’s documented scan or manual-add option for a hidden network.

A known hidden network may be entered manually on models that provide that option.

If that does not help: If the list remains empty for all nearby networks, provide that detail to the TV manufacturer.

When the Wi-Fi control needs manufacturer support

If the Wi-Fi menu remains greyed out after the model’s restart instructions, or the network list remains empty even when other networks are nearby and compatible with the TV, contact the manufacturer. LG’s support guidance describes a disabled Wi-Fi menu or empty network list as a possible service issue. That is an escalation point, not a remote diagnosis of a failed Wi-Fi module.

Give support the full model number, software version if visible, whether Ethernet works, whether Wi-Fi is greyed out or simply empty, and when the issue began. If the TV is under warranty, ask the manufacturer before attempting a reset or opening the set.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Wi-Fi option greyed out on my TV?
The TV may have a temporary software state or a model-specific issue. Restart using the maker’s instructions; if the control remains disabled, contact the manufacturer rather than assuming a router password is responsible.
What if the Wi-Fi menu opens but shows no networks?
Check whether other devices see nearby networks and verify the TV’s supported Wi-Fi bands. If the TV sees no compatible networks after a restart, share that result with the TV maker.
Can I use Ethernet while TV Wi-Fi is unavailable?
If your model has a LAN port and a wired connection is practical, Ethernet may provide temporary internet access. It does not repair or diagnose the disabled Wi-Fi control.
