Troubleshooting
LG Magic Remote pointer not appearing? Check these fixes
If an LG Magic Remote pointer disappears after pressing an arrow key, move the remote or press Wheel/OK to return to pointer navigation. If it never appears, check batteries, the remote type and Audio Guidance before re-registering the remote. A standard LG remote does not produce a pointer.

If the pointer vanishes after an arrow-key press
LG documents that arrow navigation hides the pointer and switches to button navigation. Move the remote or press Wheel/OK to return to pointing. If it comes back, you do not need to reset the remote or TV.
Confirm the remote and pointer feature
A missing cursor is not automatically a broken TV. LG says standard remotes do not support the pointer, and menu names vary by webOS version.
Check the remote model and whether it is an LG Magic Remote.
The pointer feature is specific to compatible Magic Remotes.
If that does not help: If it is a standard remote, use directional buttons or find the compatible Magic Remote for the exact TV model.
Test ordinary buttons and replace weak batteries if buttons are unreliable.
Low power can affect pointer behavior even if the issue seems intermittent.
If that does not help: Replace the batteries as a set, or use the charging method specified for your remote model.
Check Audio Guidance and pairing
If ordinary buttons work but the pointer does not, LG recommends checking Audio Guidance and then re-registering the Magic Remote. Follow the instructions for your model year; button combinations can differ.
Check Settings > All Settings > General > Accessibility for Audio Guidance on 2021-and-later webOS 6.0+ models. Older webOS versions may place Accessibility directly under All Settings.
If Audio Guidance is on and spoken navigation is not needed by the viewer, switch it off and retest the pointer. Keep it enabled if the viewer relies on it.
If that does not help: If you cannot navigate the menus, use another compatible control method or the TV model manual.
For remotes covered by LG’s cited missing-pointer guide, hold Back and Home for at least five seconds until the Power light blinks three times. Point at the TV and press Wheel/OK to register again.
A pairing confirmation on screen verifies that the TV accepted registration.
If that does not help: Other Magic Remote generations use different reset combinations. If the buttons or confirmation differ, use the matching TV/remote manual instead of repeating this sequence.
Move a nearby wireless router farther from the TV if pairing or pointer behavior remains intermittent.
LG recommends keeping the router at least 20 cm away in its pointer troubleshooting guidance.
If that does not help: If the cursor is still absent, contact LG with the TV model and remote model.
Avoid factory reset as an early fix
LG lists resetting the TV only as a last step. Its instructions warn that a reset removes app logins, Wi-Fi passwords, channels and other saved settings.
What to do next
Re-register the Magic Remote only after checking pointer settings and batteries; its cursor behavior is model- and webOS-dependent.

Frequently asked questions
- Can a regular LG remote show the Magic Remote pointer?
- No. LG says the pointer is available on compatible Magic Remotes; standard remotes use directional navigation.
- Why do the volume buttons work when the pointer does not?
- Some remote functions may still operate while the pointer connection or mode is unavailable. Check batteries, Audio Guidance and the model-specific registration instructions.
- Will a TV reset fix the pointer?
- It may be suggested as a last resort, but it erases saved setup data. Try the documented remote checks first and confirm reset steps for your webOS model.
