Fire TV app has a cloud icon or disappeared? Check Auto Offload

A cloud icon on an installed-app tile can mean Fire TV offloaded the app to save storage. Amazon says offloaded apps keep login information and preferences and can be downloaded again when needed; this differs from an app removed from the Amazon Appstore.

Recognize an offloaded app

Amazon says Auto Offload may remove infrequently used apps after 30 days when device storage is low. The cloud icon marks an app that can be redownloaded; internet access is required for Auto Offload.

  1. Highlight the app tile with the cloud icon and select it.

Fire TV can redownload the offloaded app while online.

If that does not help: Check that the device is connected to the internet and has enough free storage.

  2. If you cannot find the tile, open Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.

Amazon documents app management in Fire TV settings.

If that does not help: App availability and menu labels vary by Fire OS version; search the Apps library as well.

Manage Auto Offload and storage

Amazon says Auto Offload is on by default on supported devices. Its setting is under Settings > Applications > Auto Offload; you can turn the feature off or choose apps for offloading from Manage Installed Applications. Amazon lists several older Fire TV devices and devices with Kids profiles as unsupported.

Disabling offload can leave less free storage. Before uninstalling an app, check whether it is merely offloaded (cloud icon) or no longer offered in the store; those situations have different recovery paths.

What to do next

A Fire TV cloud icon can mean an app was offloaded for storage; reconnect and select it to download again.
