A cautious Claude Code prompt for your own Android TV
A useful Claude Code prompt for your own Android TV asks for inspection and a reversible plan before it permits any change. It names the model, the feature you want to preserve, and the exact actions that require your approval.
Published by TV Remotely · Source checked 2026-10-26. Model and firmware behavior can differ; device tests are named only where performed.
Give the assistant a narrow job
Tell it your exact TV model and Android/Google TV version, the one problem you want to solve, and features you rely on: inputs, Cast, voice search, remote pairing and updates. Ask it to read current device state and relevant official or project documentation. Do not include your Wi-Fi password, account tokens or ADB private key in the prompt.
Keep the task to one change at a time so the result can be attributed to that change.
A prompt you can adapt
“This is my own Android/Google TV. Identify its model and software version. Inspect only; do not change packages or settings yet. Show each proposed command, the exact package or setting it affects, evidence that it applies to this model, the expected result and the undo command. Preserve inputs, casting, remote pairing, accessibility and updates. Wait for my approval before each change. After any approved change, test Home, input switching, casting and the physical remote, then record the result.”
The words “wait for my approval” are meaningful only if you actually review the proposed commands and keep execution permissions under your control.
Stop conditions and rollback
If the assistant cannot identify a package, cannot confirm a restore command, or sees a different firmware from the source example, stop that change. Save the pre-change state and test the original TV launcher before attempting to replace it. Disconnect ADB and turn off debugging after work.
If Home fails, follow the project recovery instructions you saved while the original launcher was still accessible.
