Explainers & comparisons

Will debloating break casting or the TV remote?

A cleanup can leave the TV booting normally while breaking Cast discovery or a phone remote. Casting and control may depend on setup, receiver, Wi-Fi and remote-service components that differ by Android/Google TV build.

Test each feature before cleanup

From a second device, cast to the TV, pair or reconnect a phone remote, switch HDMI inputs and restart the TV. Record whether each works now. Without a baseline, a later failure is hard to attribute to the cleanup.

Inspect dependencies on this model

Clean Your TV’s Chromecast with Google TV reports warn that a setup component can hold Cast receiver credentials or a saved Wi-Fi network. Other manufacturers can have different ownership. The project’s workflow also protects input and remote services.

A package list copied from another TV can disable one of these dependencies even when the name sounds unrelated.

Test after one approved change

Repeat Cast from the same sender, open the phone remote, try the physical remote, switch inputs and restart once. If a feature fails, undo the most recent change using the recorded restore path and retest before touching another package.

Do not claim a cleanup is safe because Home looks correct; the features above require separate checks.
