Turn on a Samsung TV from your phone: settings and limits

A Samsung phone remote can turn on some Tizen TVs only if the model and standby network support the wake path. Samsung documents Power On with Mobile and IP Remote on supported consumer TVs, but those settings do not guarantee every app or firmware will wake the TV.

Check the model and baseline

Record the full Samsung model and year, then pair the phone while the TV is on. Confirm navigation and power off first. If pairing fails while awake, a standby setting cannot fix that failure.

Keep the physical remote because the TV may need it to approve the first connection.

Review Samsung network wake settings

Samsung’s consumer IP Control worksheet lists IP Remote and Power On with Mobile under Network Expert Settings on supported models; the exact menu location changes by model year. Samsung support also describes Power On with Mobile as a setting that can allow wake signals. Read the on-screen description before enabling it.

A TV disconnected from power or from its network cannot accept a local wake command. Energy settings and router isolation can also matter.

Test standby separately

Switch the TV off normally, wait for standby, then try the phone control once. Note whether the phone still finds the TV and whether the TV wakes. Restore the original setting if no improvement, and check the exact model manual before changing more options.

A successful power-off command proves only that the TV was reachable while on; it does not prove wake support.
