Fire TV privacy and sponsored-content settings

Fire TV offers separate controls for device usage data, third-party app usage data and interest-based ads. Amazon says turning off these controls changes specified collection or use; it does not necessarily remove marketing offers or affect all data from Amazon services.

Review the Fire TV privacy menu

Amazon currently locates these controls under Settings, Preferences, Privacy Settings on supported Fire TV products. Read Device Usage Data, Collect App Usage Data and Interest-based Ads separately. Record the previous value of each setting.

Understand each switch

Amazon says Device Usage Data opt-out limits processing of TV operating-system usage data for marketing and product improvement. Collect App Usage Data addresses open, close and duration data for third-party apps. Interest-based Ads concerns use of the device advertising identifier by apps for ad profiles.

None of these switches guarantees that all promotions disappear; Amazon says marketing offers may still appear and other services have their own processing.

Keep Fire OS and other platforms separate

These settings belong to Fire TV products. A device using another Amazon platform may have different options, and an Android/Google TV guide is not a Fire OS settings map. After changes, test the services you use and reopen the menu to confirm the saved values.

Avoid factory-resetting just to change privacy choices; use the reversible settings provided.
